Superb inspection methods and tips

• Position yourself to be able to systematically scan all components
• Be ready to scan components from more than one angle.
• Video record your findings as soon as you detect corona or arcing on porcelain insulators, polymer insulators, bushings, capacitors, conductors etc
• Using the visible zoom look into the physical damage where the corona was detected
• Add commentary vocal and text - such as about the location of the corona (tower, side, phase, type of component, kV and etc.), special or outstanding findings, to distinguish the case and to enable easy retrieval of the problem towards solving the problem
• Operate on low UV gain in order to pinpoint the exact location of the corona
  

Superb documentation and reporting

• To document the inspection video capture of the corona detection must be deployed, since corona is a non continuous phenomenon and a still picture might miss the appearance of this intermittent emission.
• Ofil's reporting software can indicate a trend of faults in the grid. This report will show a pattern of problems due to bad design or any particular faulty batch of components.

• A regular and routine inspection reveals the soft spots that need inspection "attention"
